Non-aligned status, declared by  Ukraine, in no way hinders the development of constructive, partnership and friendly relations with the Alliance,  NATO Spokesman James Appathurai told Ukrainian journalists in Brussels on Tuesday,  UKRINFORM reported.

According to him, the organization remains open to all European democracies, including Ukraine, the decision of the Bucharest summit remains unchanged. "If the Ukrainian government does not want to move through membership, but prefers partnership, we fully respect it," Appathurai said, affirming that "there is no contradiction between good relations and practical cooperation with NATO and non-aligned status of Ukraine".

He pointed out that today Ukraine is taking part in all NATO-led operations and is not changing this approach. Right now, NATO is conducting the Sea Breeze naval exercise together with Ukraine.

Appathurai assured that NATO's budget cuts will not affect the practical cooperation with Ukraine. He expressed confidence that the new course of Ukraine does not diminish the support of Ukraine by NATO both in political and practical dimensions.
