The Kyiv Prosecutor’s Office has initiated a criminal investigation against two MPs from the Our Ukraine – People’s Self-Defence Party, Yury Hrymchak and Andriy Parubiy over the events in the Verkhovna Rada on 27 April. As reported, there was mayhem in parliament before the vote on the Kharkiv Agreements between the Presidents of Ukraine and Russia, with smoke bombs and fights.

The investigator has lodged a submission to the Verkhovna Rada asking that the Deputies’ immunity be removed, and this has been supported by the Prosecutor General.

Chairman of the Party of Regions faction at the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Yefremov does not rule out that the parliament may consider the consent to bring Our Ukraine People's Self-Defense Bloc faction deputies Andrii Parubii and Yurii Hrymchak to responsibility on Thursday, May 20, he told the press.

At the same time, Yefremov said that the issue should first be eyed by the parliamentary regulations committee.

BYuT considers that the criminal proceedings Kyiv prosecutor's office brought against Verkhovna Rada deputies Yurii Hrymchak and Andrii Parubii (both from the Our Ukraine - People's Self-Defense Bloc faction) are evidence of repression against the opposition, BYuT press-service said.

"The bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko faction believes "pseudo-criminal" cases instituted against people's deputies Yurii Hrymchak and Andrii Parubii reveal a repression nature of President Viktor Yanukovych's regime," the statement said. This looks like political pressure on the opposition and an attempt to intimidate it, according to BYuT.

"This a political pressure and an attempt to intimidate the opposition before making a deal on surrendering national interests of Ukraine," the statement said.

BYuT faction has expressed support for its bloc members and emphasized that instead of them one should bring Party of Regions deputies to justice for alleged serious bodily injuries inflicted on opposition deputies in the Parliament.
