Ukraine's Constitutional Court has ruled the prolongation of a lease on Russia's naval base in the Crimea conforms to the country's Constitution, Foreign Minister Kostyantyn Hryshchenko said on Thursday.

The Court refused to open the case on official explanation of usage of current military bases on the territory of Ukraine. The appeal was sumitted by former president Viktor Yushchneko and other 50 deputies of the parliament. The Court claims the question is not within its jurisdiction.

Section XV, paragraph 14 of the Constitution says that usage of current military bases on the territory of Ukraine by foreign formations is possible only under lease condition, ratified by the parliament. At the same time, article 17, paragraph 7 says that deployment of foreign military bases on the territory of Ukraine is forbidden.
