Ukraine's relations with the European Union have reached a new level of quality over the past four years, Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko said in an interview with Belgian newspapers La Libre Belgique and De Standaard.

Yushchenko exemplified the talks on the association agreement with the European Union, which would provide for a deeper level of integration, Ukraine's participation in the Bologna process, integration of power markets, talks on the creation of a free trade zone, liberalization of visa rules, etc.

"During the past fours years, we achieved applied integration in many areas," the President stated explaining that the integration moves bring Ukraine closer to the EU even to a greater degree than the pledges to call an exact date of getting EU membership.

He emphasized that eurointegration of Ukraine as a state sharing European values must be taken as a mutually profitable process.

While describing the domestic political and economic situation in Ukraine during the past four years, Yushchenko noted that the main achievements of this period are the GDP and national budget doubling, better financing of the key social programs, strengthening of the freedom of speech and choice.
