Ukraine's oppositional Party of Regions leader Viktor Yanukovych doesn't believe the government's promises to finance the accident prevention arrangements in coal industry.

He said this during a hotline in the office of the Komsomoska Pravda in Ukraine Newspaper on Wednesday, Interfax-Ukraine reported.

"We have been listening to these populist slogans for five years. Every time anything happens, we hear promises that they will help, assign extra funds, get everything sorted out and so on," Yanukovych said.

At the same time, the oppositional leader has noted the inconsistency of the government's actions in settling the coal industry problems.

The coal mining is being financed far interior to its needs, Yanukovych said. Last year, for instance safety arrangements have received 25% less funds then required, he added.

The Regions Party leader said that this year the government has assigned UHA 36 million for accident prevention at coalmines, which is three times less than last year. At the same time, the enterprises received only around UAH 9 million of this sum, he stressed.

"This means that almost all safety arrangements have been frustrated," Yanukovych concluded.
