Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill has said that the authorities in Ukraine's western regions are preventing Orthodox believers from building churches, Kyiv Post reported.

"How can it be that the Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate has no cathedral in Lviv? How can it be that it's impossible to build any church [in the west of Ukraine] and that land isn't allocated?" he said in an interview with the Vesti television channel.

He said that "this only develops a sense of hostility."

"So I think that all of these issues should be resolved. Local authorities bear a huge responsibility here for accomodating all of the communities living in these areas," Patriarch Kirill said.

Commenting on the issue of mutual relations between Orthodox and Greek-Catholic believers in Ukraine, he said that this issue should be viewed in the context of mutual relations between the Orthodox and Catholic Churches.
