Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia presented Ukrainian President Victor Yuschenko the first certificate for a complete set of works by Nikolai Gogol, according to the official Web site of the Patriarch's visit to Ukraine, Interfax-Ukraine reported.

The complete set of Gogol in 17 volumes will be published by the Moscow Patriarchy's Publishing Department for Russian-Ukrainian projects by the end of 2009.

Patriarch Kirill gave his blessing for publishing the books shortly before his visit to Ukraine.

"We should commemorate the great Russian not only by restoring his tomb in Danilovsky Monastery [in Moscow], but also by returning his works to the people," the Patriarch said in his address on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the writer's birth.
