President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko has allowed the resignation of Viktor Baloha from post of the President’s Chief of Staff.

He disclosed this in an interview with Delo daily (of May 19). In particular, he said: “I allowed it [the resignation], and I believe, in this case, it is necessary to meet halfway. Once again – I don’t see any tragedy here. The electoral campaign is upcoming, and, probably, a part of the society would like to see other people, other tactics, and other relations. I think it’s a good way to improve, and not to return everything instead of this chairman, not to be busy with criticism, sorting out relations and accusations. Let’s win the next day by saving time. Thus, I believe, everything is logical and not unexpected”.

Asked whether Viktor Baloha will be busy with Yushchenko’s electoral campaign, the President noted that he has been carrying out consultations on this issue. “This issue has not been discussed with Vikctor Baloha as yet. I think he is a self-sufficient person and will do what he likes. Or he will help organize the electoral campaign – the door is open here. If he will be busy with other activities – he has a right to decide”, the President noted.
