Premier says Ukraine will get first tranche from Japan as part of Kyoto Protocol

KYIV, March 30. Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has said she hopes that the country will get the first tranche of funds from Japan as part of the Kyoto Protocol in April this year. She said this at a press conference on Saturday, following her visit to Japan.

“Ukraine will get USD 4.5 billion as part of the Kyoto Protocol. The contracts have been signed, and the first tranche will come in April,” the premier said, adding that the funds received as part of the Kyoto Protocol will be spent on the reconstruction and modernization of Ukrainian boiler houses.

Tymoshenko said that this would help avoid the dependence on natural gas, make the environment cleaner and halve the value of hot water.
