The board of the International HIV/AIDS Alliance in Ukraine (Alliance Ukraine) has confirmed its intentions to invest over UAH 300 million in a national AIDS prevention program for 2009-2013.

Alliance Ukraine will attract around USD 60 million at the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria as part of the sixth round of grants, Alliance Ukraine Executive Director Andriy Klepikov said at a press conference on Wednesday, UKRINFORM reported.

He stressed the need to spend the funds, first and foremost, on the development of HIV/AIDS prevention programs, because their state financing is under threat, especially amid the economic crisis.

Klepikov said that the status of the International HIV/AIDS Alliance in Ukraine had been changed and added that this organization had become independent and formed its management bodies - the board and the supervisory council.

He said that Alliance Ukraine's strategy would be currently determined by Ukrainian, rather than foreign experts.
