Considering the current situation, Ukraine
should recall its application for joining the NATO Membership Action
Plan. Anatoliy Hrytsenko, head of the Ukrainian parliamentary committee
for national security and defense, claimed this during a working visit
to Kharkiv.
Instead, the ex-Defense Minister of Ukraine proposes to pay more attention to developing cooperation with NATO and solving frozen regional conflicts, Deutsche Welle informs.
Hrytsenko says
there is a little probability that the democratic coalition will
persist in parliament. Considering the internal crisis, the lawmakers
believes, Ukrainian authorities have less opportunities to consolidate
for the sake of joining NATO.
“I would recall the application for Ukraine’s joining the NATO MAP, and would propose to alter the agenda of the Ukraine-NATO meeting in December. It would be better to consider issues of regional security, which are pressing after the Caucasian conflict”, the politician stressed.
However, the ex-Defense Minister is confident that in future Ukraine must become a NATO member.
