The city authority of Ivano-Frankivsk plans to construct a complex commemorating leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists Stepan Bandera on the European square.
According to the press service of the Ivano-Frankivsk city administration, the complex will include the monument and the Museum of liberation movement.
The opening of the monument is timed to the 100-year after the birth of Bandera – January 1, 2009. The total cost of the project is UAH 15 million – financed from the city budget, sponsors and public contributions. The community of Ivano-Frankivsk has contributions totaling UAH 124.45 thousand from the people, as reports Interfax-Ukraine.
However, many public and political organizations of Ivano-Frankovsk object aginst the expensive memorial because believe Bandera didn’t like luxuries and the monument must be modest.
