Celebrating 194 years since Taras Shevchenko was born President took part in flower laying ceremony near the monument to the great Ukrainian poet in Kyiv, Taras Shevchenko’s parkpresident's press office reported.
Other participants of the ceremony were Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, Defense Minister Yuriy Yekhanurov, Foreign Minister Volodymyr Ohryzko, Minister for Culture Vasyl Vovkun, Minister for Emergencies Volodymyr Shandra, Energy Minister Yuriy Prodan, Health Minister Vasyl Knyazevych, Minister for Family, Youth and Sport Yuriy Pavlenko, OU-PSD faction leader Vyacheslav Kyrylenko, acting head of the Security Service Valentyn Nalyvaichenko, deputies, local authorities and public organizations representatives, etc. 
On the occasion of Taras Shevchenko’s birthday 194th anniversary President Victor Yushchenko together with his wife Kateryna Yushchenko, younger children and grandchildren visited “Taras Shevchenko’s Fatherland” National reserve, which is situated in Moryntsi village, Cherkassy region.
President and his family took part in flower laying ceremony near the monument to a Mother, visited Taras Shevchenko’s museum complex including the house, where the Ukrainian poet was born, as well as the Chapel of St. Tarasiy. V. Yushchenko also met with the inhabitants of Moryntsi village and along with those, accompanying him in his visit to Cherkasy, took part in tree planting ceremony which was held at the territory of the reserve.
