Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Raisa Bohatyryova notes that positions of the Party of Regions and President Viktor Yushchenko concerning Ukraine’s joining NATO coincide. “Joining NATO and the referendum will be held when the country will be ready. According to the results of the referendum the corresponding decision will be taken.” Bohatyryova stated on air on “1+1” TV channel, commenting on the criticism of the Party of Regions concerning the letter of the countries leadership on joining Action plan on membership in NATO.
“Today we do not speak about joining NATO. We speak about joining Action plan, this can implement some standards in Ukraine,” the secretary of the NSDC said.
Bohatyryova also notes that now it is necessary to be consecutive in actions.
Commenting on remark that positions of the President and the Party of Regions differ, Bohatyryova stated: “Position which I have published coincides with position of the President and positions of the Party of Regions – joining NATO according to the results of the referendum.”
