President Viktor Yushchenko met today with Energy Minister Yuriy Prodan. President's press office reports.

Main discussed topics were state of affairs in energy field, gas consumption forecast for 2008 and adoption of financial plan for NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine.

President pointed to absence of a single strategic vision of the Ukrainian fuel and energy complex especially of its gas sector. Neither Energy strategy until 2030 is backed up by systematic decisions and work as Cabinet of Ministers is not observing this document’s provisions execution. Besides Viktor Yushchenko drew attention to the fact that assignment to decrease gas consumption is repeatedly ignored.

Speaking of the forecasted gas amounts consumption for 2008 provided by regional administrations President expressed discontent about the fact that these amounts exceed those of 2007 in all areas without any explanation.

Prodan informed President on preparation of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine financial plan. Yushchenko from his part reemphasized that he would like to see the plan as clear-cut and balanced as possible mentioning that the company’s budget which he had received officially yesterday raises a whole series of questions.

President also suggested that gas issues and state of financial affairs in NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine are discussed by the National Security and Defense Council. Council’s decision on the matter is to be drafted by a working group consisting of Finances, Economy, Energy Ministers along with NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine board chairman, Secretariat and NSDC representatives.

After the meeting Yushchenko sent letters with the suggestion to discussed gas issues and state of financial affairs in NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine at one of the closest meetings of the National Security and Defense Council to Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and NSDC Secretary Rayisa Bohatyryova
