Within the framework of his visit to Georgia President Viktor Yushchenko met with acting President of Georgia Nino Burjanadze. President’s press office reports.

During the talks sides discussed development of bilateral economic and political relations between Ukraine and Georgia, internal political situation in Georgia and Ukraine, dwelled on presidential elections scheduled on January 5, 2008.

During press conference following the meeting Viktor Yushchenko has said that Ukraine supports democratic elections in Georgia. He has also emphasized that answers to present challenges standing before Georgian democracy may be found exclusively within the country itself. “I dedicate my visit to my solidarity with democratic powers of Georgia. Ukraine as possibly no other country is interested in the democratic development of Georgia”, Yushchenko said.

Nino Burjanadze from her part has said that for Georgia it is a matter of great significance to have Ukraine a strategic partner in both political and economic field. “We hope that our bilateral relations further stay warm and mutually beneficial,” Burjanadze said.
