Emergency Minister of Ukraine Nestor Shufrych stated that sulphur, leaked from sank ships as a result of heavy storm, is not dangerous.

According to the Emergency Ministry, Shufrych said that according to the data of ecologists, concentrate of sulphur in the sea water is dangerous in proportion 3.5 g per 1 litre. Now concentrate does not exceed 1.5 g per 1 litre, so the volume of sulphur in the sea does not have any danger.

Shufrych noted that experts of Transport, Ecology and Emergency Ministries developed possible variants of actions in case of concentrate increase, but now there is no threat.

As a reminder, on November 11 the heavy storm became a reason for accident in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov: about twenty ships were shipwrecked. As a result of catastrophe, about 2 thousand tons of black oil leaked in to the sea and about 7 thousand of sulphur are underwater in sank ship.

According to the results of diving observation of sank ship with sulphur on board, the ship has gap on the side, covers of two holds are broke off; as a result of this sulphur under flow pressure goes to the marine environment. The press service of Nature Ministry said.
