President Viktor Yushchenko has recently received a letter from staff members of the Central Municipal Clinical Hospital, one of Ukraine’s oldest and best healthcare establishments. They complain about plans by Kyiv’s authorities to reorganize the hospital, believing that its reorganization has been initiated by certain commercial companies which want to get its land in the capital’s downtown, and think this will lead to its liquidation, President's press office reports.

Yushchenko on Friday sent letters to Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych, Prosecutor General Oleksandr Medvedko and Kyiv Mayor Leonid Chernovetsky with a request to resolve the problem. He asked the Ppremier to instruct the central executive bodies to examine the expedience of the hospital’s reorganization and alienation of its land between 2001 and 2007 and study the reasons for giving some of its departments to other hospitals.

Yushchenko instructed Chernovetsky to meet with the hospital’s staff members to discuss and try tosettle all these problems. Medvedko must examine the legality of land alienation between 2001 and 2007.

Yanukovych, Medvedko and Chernovetsky will report directly to the President by November 26.
