Ukraine’s parliamentary forces should take political responsibility for stabilizing the highest legislative body, President Viktor Yushchenko told reporters in Poltava on Thursday, president's press office reported.

“Political stability in Ukraine’s parliament is mission number one and must be seen as a task by those political forces that have been elected to parliament. Political stability starts with parliamentary stability,” he said.

The president urged all members of parliament to “mobilize their efforts” to convene for a session and form a coalition. “Your task is to form a majority as quickly as possible and elect leaders of parliament,” he added.

Yushchenko said the country’s next coalition should reflect the September 30 poll results. “I believe that a coalition should be formed on the basis of the political results of the elections,” he said and added that it therefore should be “‘orange’ and democratic.” He, however, said it was a “big mistake” to think parliament with a razor-thin majority will be stable.
