President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko congratulated railwaymen on their professional holiday.
According to the press office of “Ukrrailway” (“Ukrzaliznytsya”), the president in his greeting has noted that Ukrainian railways take a leading role in transport system of the country, provide integrity of economic area of the country, its transit potential and are potential constituent of the system of international main lines.
Yushchenko noted that dynamic development of economy needs significant branch reformation, reasonable economic service, so railwaymen have a task to make railway transport modern, comfortable and safe.
Day of railwaymen is marked in Ukraine on November 4 under initiative of Lviv railway. On November 4, 1861 the first train “Yaroslav” arrived in Lviv. That train connected Vienna, Krakov, Peremyshl and Lviv.
Nowadays “Ukrzaliznytsya” has six railway roads (Donetsk, Lviv, Odesa, South, South-western, Transdnistrian) that connect all regions of Ukraine.
