Yesterday President Viktor Yushchenko spoke to Slovakia’s politicians, business leaders and diplomats in Bratislava on Thursday and said it was important to develop ties between the two countries and satisfy the educational and cultural needs of the Ukrainian community in Slovakia and the Slovak minority in Ukraine, president's press office reported.

The President said both countries should spare no effort to resolve those problems that “impede our dynamic advance.” “The Slovak Republic will always see a loyal partner and friend in Ukraine. I am proud of our ability to implement policies that are comfortable for both nations,” he said.

Yushchenko also spoke of the EU integration and said Ukraine and the European Union were now crafting an agreement on enhanced cooperation. “Ukraine’s European prospects will be fixed but we, no doubt, need many friends and partners,” he said, reaffirming his country’s ambition to join the EU and NATO.

He said business and visa issues were also high on Ukraine and Slovakia’s cooperation agenda.
