Presidential Advisor Oleh Rybachuk took part in the third forum of the Caucasian-Caspian Commission in Oxford on September 21-23, President’s press office reports.

Its participants spoke about political, economic, security and energy issues. They also discussed the commission’s draft report to formulate new approaches to resolving frozen conflicts in the Caucasian-Caspian region.

Rybachuk said in his speech during the forum the European Union played a special – “consolidating” – role in settling such conflicts. He said the commission had been created to propose a plan for the region’s European development.

Rybachuk believes its cooperation and productive dialogue with the EU would help resolve these conflicts effectively and through peaceful means.

According to Rybachuk the Caucasian-Caspian region is becoming “more and more active in the geopolitical and economic aspects, so the attention of the international community to it is growing naturally.” He said Ukraine’s participation in this process was very important. “Our country continues to intensify its contribution to the system of regional security and this fact definitely strengthens Ukraine’s positions inthe EU membershipdialogue."
