Secretariat Chief of Staff Viktor Baloha will assist the investigation by the prosecutor general's office into the murder of Georgiy Gongadze, his press secretary, Yulia Yershova, said on Wednesday.

Yershova said President Victor Yushchenko had received a letter from Prosecutor General Oleksandr Medvedko on June 19 with a request to allow his investigatorsto carry out a special experiment in Baloha’s office, which had once been former President Kuchma’s office, on June 20 or before that date.

Being aware of the significance of such an experiment, both Yushchenko and Baloha immediately asked their services to assist the prosecutor general’s office but, citing technical reasons and due to Baloha’s busy schedule on Wednesday, suggested delaying the experiment until Saturday, June 23. This date is, however, inconvenient for Major Mykola Melnychenko, who is scheduled to attend the 15-year anniversary celebration of his graduation, so the Presidential Secretariat suggested carrying out the experiment on Thursday night, Friday or Saturday this week.
