Ukraine’s democratic forces are concluding talks to create a bloc, Secretariat Chief of Staff Viktor Baloha said on Monday, President's press office reported.

He said it was a “difficult technical process” to decide who would be members of this new alliance. “For the country’s united democratic forces, it means presenting their political agenda through colorful and strong personalities capable of implementing the idea of renewing Ukraine’s government,” he said.

Baloha said their talks were not chaotic but careful and based on sociology.

“Apart from the political consultations involving the democrats, large-scale surveys have been carried out to learn the public opinion and what the people, not only the supporters of the orange camp, want. During these discussions, we speak about whether our lawmakers will be able to present our program to the people and implement it. All personal likes and advantages which are not in line with this approach have been discarded as unacceptable.”

Baloha said the public mood barometer showed the great need for qualitative changes in the country. 77% of those who think Ukraine is going in a wrong direction demand it, he said. “The united democratic bloc is capable of materializing these expectations. So in our bloc there will be professional politicians, state managers, economists, famous journalists and reputable public leaders. We seek to … offer quick and effective actions aimed at renewing the country.”

Baloha named the top ten of the bloc: Vyacheslav Kyrylenko, Yuriy Lutsenko, Anatoly Hrytsenko, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Ruslan Knyazevych, Iryna Gerashchenko, Yuriy Pavlenko, Kseniya Lyapina, Viktor Bondar, and Arsen Avakov.

“These are all quite famous personalities. Their leading position…is an adequate response to the wish of the voters to see new faces and hear new voices. President Victor Yushchenko has insisted on such an approach,” he said.

Baloha said the bloc would probably be led by Kyrylenko. “This is natural because this politician is quite famous in Ukraine and is a leader of the powerful political force… However, we should remember that Our Ukraine will make its final decision during a party convention. Some corrections are possible but there will be no radical changes in the top ten.”
