Victor Yushchenko met with leaders of Ukraine’s law enforcement agencies on Tuesday, President's press office informs.

Prosecutor General Oleksandr Medvedko, Defense Minister Anatoly Hrytsenko, Interior Minister Vasyl Tsushko, Security Service Chief Valentyn Nalyvaichenko (acting), Border Service Chief Mykola Lytvyn, Commander in Chief of the Armed Force of Ukraine Serhiy Kyrychenko, Interior Forces Commander Oleksandr Kikhtenko, Intelligence Service Chief Oleksandr Halaka, External Intelligence Service Chief Mykola Malomuzh, State Guard Chief Petro Plyuta, Secretariat Chief of Staff Viktor Baloha and Security Council Secretary Vitaly Haiduk were present at the meeting.

The President demanded they ensure there is no pressure on the Constitutional Court and the Central Election Commission. He reiterated that the country’s law enforcement agencies must show that they respect and adhere to laws. He said the political crisis should be resolved by politicians and in a political way.

“This is the most important thing in this situation, and I want your work to be based on this doctrine,” he said.

“I have been calling on our political forces not to use people, streets and squares to settle the crisis,” he said, urging lawmakers to demonstrate political culture. “I would like to tell you again that your mission is to make peace and be apolitical. You must display your ability to preserve law and order in these circumstances.”

Yushchenko then asked Prosecutor General Medvedko to adequately respond to and assess recent court rulings, particularly one banning next month’s election. He said such rulings were based on “political intrigues,” adding thatthe courts violated Ukraine’s constitution by acting as the Constitutional Court. He also wanted to learnabout the investigation into last week’s incident in the Kyiv Pechersk Court.

The law enforcement leaders informed him about their actions to preserve stability in the capital and Ukraine.
