Victor Yushchenko met with Ukraine’s Ombudsman Nina Karpachova on Thursday. They spoke about how to resolve the parliamentary crisis, president's press office reported.

The President said he was not going to repeal his decree dissolving parliament “not to evade his functional duties.” He added that he had called a snap poll to stop the unconstitutional expansion of the Verkhovna Rada coalition, revising the result of last year’s parliamentary election.

“This is a direct violation of human rights and the most fundamental of these rights, the right to vote,” he said. “The President can disband parliament… and must allow no usurpation of power and constitutional violations, protect Ukraine’s security, defense capabilities and territorial integrity.”

Karpachova said she was ready to cooperate with the country’s centers of power to settle the crisis.
