Victor Yushchenko told a press conference on Monday the Verkhovna Rada would be efficient if it adhered to national priorities, president's press office repor.

“I want to see Ukraine’s parliament function efficiently and make compromises on key national priorities,” he said when asked to comment on yesterday’s declaration signed by his parliamentary bloc, Our Ukraine, and Yulia Tymoshenko’s bloc.

The President said “ignoring the voice of the opposition” must remain in the past forever, adding that opposition forces should be involved in making state decisions.

He described the declaration as a “topical document” and expressed confidence it would help Ukraine’s government and opposition compromise. He added that the opposition must not “act against somebody” but take responsibility for the challenges the government fails to resolve.

“I see no problems in how to fulfill the declaration,” he said, adding that opposition parties should urge the government to follow the document. “The government must see priorities that unite political forces.”
