Our Ukraine MP Viktor Korol has asked President Victor Yushchenko to postpone his nomination as the country’s national security chief, Secretariat Chief of Staff Viktor Baloha said on Monday, the President’s press office informs.
“I would call this decision a meaningful time-out. He asked the head of state to postpone his candidacy until the Verkhovna Rada approves Volodymyr Ohryzko as Ukraine's new foreign minister,” he said.
Baloha said Korol saw the Ohryzko vote as a “test showing whether the parliamentary coalition is ready to constructively cooperate with the president or not.”
“If the majority in the Verkhovna Rada tells Ohryzko ‘no’ again, then Korol’s nomination as head of the Security Service of Ukraine will be like a sign language conversation between the deaf and the blind. As a militia general, Viktor Korol does not want to make the President a hostage of the inviolable intractability of the coalition,” he said.
He, however, added that Yushchenko, who values Korol’s professional and personal qualities, might propose him again.
