Inaugurated in September 2003, the Memorial of Heroes in Tbilisi features an eternal flame and is guarded by an honor guard. A monument shaped like a woman holding a grapevine, which symbolizes the nation’s pain, was erected next to the memorial.
The Taras Shevchenko Public Garden, where Victor Yushchenko will unveil a monument to the Ukrainian poet today, lies near the site.
