Acting Foreign Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Ohryzko confirmed that he talked with the Russian delegation in Ukrainian through an interpreter. He told journalists at a briefing in Kyiv.

“I wasn’t notified that the meeting would be held in Russian. That’s why I prepared theses in Ukrainian and used them,” he said.

According to Ohryzko, delegations agree working languages beforehand and “sides usually defend and advocate their state language.”

The acting minister also noted that sharp remarks of some members of the Russian delegation did not add him enthusiasm, and that is why he “kept speaking Ukrainian in his country, at home.” “I don’t want any speculation on this subject,” he said.

In addition, Ohryzko informed that during negotiations with European colleagues, German representative in particular, he was speaking German.
