First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, Finance Minister Mykola Azarove met with the deputy Secretary General of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Nigel Carter. The sides have discussed an opportunity to hold annual meetings of the EBRD in 2008 in Kyiv, necessity to adjust the EBRD proposal pack and the current political situation in Ukraine, Cabinet press office reported.

As Mykola Azarov said, Ukraine had prepared all necessary documents for organizing annual meetings of the EBRD in 2008 in Kyiv. In his turn, Nigel Carter thanked the First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine for this opportunity and stressed that President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Jean Lemierre and shareholders of the Bank would provide an answer to this invitation very soon.

Mykola Azarov emphasized that the Government would take all necessary measure to approve a new cooperation strategy of Ukraine with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development which would be based on stable and predictable political situation in Ukraine.

The First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine had a chance to stress that cooperation with the EBRD is a direction of coordinated activity of the authorities, the necessity of which raise no doubts of the Government, Parliament and President.

In his turn, deputy director of the EBRD in Ukraine Andzhey Vitek told about Bank’s plans concerning Ukraine. In particular, the EBRD intends to sign with Ukraine a credit project valued at above 1 billion euros in which the Ukraine government authorities will take an active part. Besides, while drafting annual agreement between the EBRD and Ukraine for 2007-2008 other projects in the value of nearly 600 million euros will be included and first of the entire infrastructure development project (transport sphere and energy saving projects).

As the chief executive of the EBRD in Ukraine, Romania, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia Ihor Podolayev says, opening another two representative offices in Ukraine – in Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk and staff enlargement is an important step in cooperation between Ukraine and the EBRD.

Mykola Azarov emphasized that the current situation in Ukraine gives an opportunity to introduce medium-term projects of the Government the strategy of Ukraine’s development through 2011, in particular, including regional infrastructure and economic programs.

The First Vice Prime Minister stressed that President of Ukraine completely supports the Government’s activity aimed at speeding up economic development of Ukraine.
