Last week’s votes to override his vetoes to pass a cabinet law and extend a moratorium on the sale of farmland make it important to seek political compromise, Victor Yushchenko said in Mukachevo during his visit to Zakarpatya regions, president's press office reported.

“Such decisions considerably undermined the balance of powers but that does not mean our open dialogue should be removed from the agenda,” he said.

The President said the votes conflicted with the National Unity Pact, which stipulates that a transparent land market will be created in Ukraine by the end of 2007 and that its signees will compromise on a law defining the powers of the government.

“These are serious violations of the Pact. I am sad the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc joined the coalition,” he said, adding that he saw no “patriotic arguments” for this position.

Yushchenko expressed confidence our society would form its opinion on the observance of the National Unity Pact by the country’s political leaders if this dialogue was public.
