In the scope of his official visit to South Korea Victor Yushchenko met with South Korea’s Speaker Lim Chae-jung, president's press office reported.

The President said he was visiting Seoul to build closer ties in education and science, boost economic cooperation, liberalize visa requirements, discuss ways to improve living standards for Ukraine’s Korean community and open a commercial air route from Kyiv to Seoul.

He also asked Speaker Lim to adopt a resolution declaring the Soviet-era famine in Ukraine as genocide. The Speaker reassured Yushchenko Korea’s parliament would adequately honor the tragedy.

Speaking about international issues, the President said his country's position on North Korea’s nuclear program coincided with that of South Korea and the United Nations.

Speaker Lim thanked him for helping meet the needs of the Korean minority in Ukraine. He also said it was important to recognize diplomas.
