A criminal action against former governor of the Sumy region Evhen Shcherban was brought by Sumy prosecutor’s office, but not by the General Office of Public Prosecutor (GPU). Prosecutor General of Ukraine Oleksandr Medvedko told journalist during his working visit to Donetsk.

He said that Sherban’s case was delivered to GPU only in May, 2005, but investigation was hampered because of the absence of the main figure.

“When the case was sent to GPU Shcherban had already left Ukraine. Now he is back and the work is underway. Shcherban has already passed 21 confrontations. According to the law I will not comment on details. We will finish investigation and send it to court,” Medvedko declared.

The Prosecutor General focused journalists’ attention on that he does not differentiate between resonance and non-resonance cases. “Murder of an old woman does not differ from murder of a state official,” he said.
