Street cameras will be set soon at the route Kyiv-Boryspil

UAH 50 million will be allocated from the state treasury for this purpose. The “Ukravtodor” assures that there was not such thing either in Ukraine or all over Eastern Europe. New system will work along 18 km of the route: from Kharkov square to Boryspil. This very part is one of the hot places as to the numbers of car accidents.

Specialists plan to start testing the system in June 2007. But the work has already been started. Along the center stripe of the road there is a trench and some metal constructions… Video cameras and monitors are likely to be set on them, showing information for drivers. In particular, to notify the drivers about icy conditions or fog on the road three hours before. Special weather stations will serve as sensors, set into the asphalt.

The work of such system is the following: information from the street cameras and small weather stations goes into control center where it is processed and given to the monitors, fixed along the route. On the plasma monitors (as large as one x one and a half meters) there will be a message for drivers. For example: “Be careful! In three hours the icy conditions are expected” or “There is a traffic jam near the Yuzhny bridge.” With the help of such weather stations the quantity of chemical reagents, which are necessary to cover icy route, will be possible to determine.
