The European community is not now able to provide any state, including Ukraine, with a clear and concrete perspective of membership in the EU, German Ambassador to Ukraine Reinhard Schaefers said, Cabinet press office reported.
"Presently, the EU and Germany believe that Ukraine should be approached as closer as it is possible to the European Union in fulfilment of certain projects and obligations. At the same time, proceeding from the internal situation in the EU, it cannot give clear and concrete perspectives of membership," the Ambassador said.
According to him, it doesn't mean denial in membership perspective. "During the German presidency in the EU we will press for concluding a new enhanced agreement with Ukraine, which would be based on establishment of a free trade area," Mr Schaefers said.
