Ukraine has started
negotiations with Iceland on simplification of the visa regime, Ukrainian
Foreign Minister Borys Tarasyuk said at a Monday press conference with Iceland
Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade Valgerdur Sverrisdottir, Cabinet press office reported.
According to the Iceland
Minister, the negotiations are very important for Iceland, as last week Ukraine
has completed negotiations with the EU on facilitation of the visa regime.
"Though Iceland is not an EU member, we participate in the Schengen
treaty," she said.
She stated about Iceland
business interestedness to invest to Ukraine. According to her, a delegation of
24 Iceland companies, who arrived to take part in the second Ukraine - Iceland
business forum, are also interested in Ukrainian imports of goods.
According to the
Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, trade turnover between Ukraine and Iceland over the
two past yeas reached 16 M. USD. "This is a modest performance, but we
have all grounds to step it up," Borys Tarasyuk said. The cost of Iceland
investments to Ukraine presently amounts to some 11 M. USD.
