Monday Victor Yushchenko has met with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Terry Davis, president's press office reported.

The President congratulated him on the first visit to Ukraine and said it nearly coincided with the eleventh anniversary of Ukraine’s entry into the Council of Europe.

Yushchenko reassured Mr. Davis that our country would observe all the obligations it had assumed as a member of the Council of Europe. He said one of their most urgent requirements to reconvene the constitutional court had been fulfilled.

They spoke about the current political situation, the Gongadze case and reforms in Ukraine.

The President praised the signing of a memorandum between the government of Ukraine and the Council of Europe to open a Council of Europe office in Ukraine and expressed hopes their presence in our country would help implement a number of important projects.
