Monday Victor Yushchenko has held a meeting to speak about how to honor the victims of the Holodomor and political repressions, president's press office reported.

First Deputy Secretariat Chief of Staff Ivan Vasyunyk, Deputy Prime Minister Dmytro Tabachnyk, Head of the National Memory Institute Ihor Yukhnovsky and Head of the Presidential Council of Culture Mykola Zhulynsky were present at the meeting.

They discussed plans to hold events in Ukraine on November 25-26. (Ukraine’s top officials are expected to pray for the dead with religious leaders in Kyiv’s St. Sophia Square and light candles.)

The President said the Holodmor anniversary had been first marked officially last year.

“We are renewing some traditions to commemorate this tragic event in our history by half-masting flags, holding the Light a Candle event and observing a nationwide minute of silence,” he said.

The participants of the meeting also spoke about the construction of a Holodmor memorial.
