Victor Yushchenko has met with State Security Chief Ihor Drizhchany, President's press office reported.

Drizhchany informed him of results of his work in the past nine months. He said the Security Service had reformed its counterintelligence department and achieved results in the prevention of illegal weapon trafficking. 3,000 criminal cases have been initiated and many fraudulent schemes disclosed since the beginning of the year.

Yushchenko praised the dynamics of reforms in the Security Service, which is developing more efficient forms and methods of its work. It no longer performs inappropriate functions, having improved interdepartmental coordination and reinforced regional departments. He also appreciates measures aimed at further reforming the organization.  

The President commissioned Drizhchany to examine security officers by the end of the year and develop new approaches in their employment and training. He reiterated that it was important to combat corruption and other crimes within the Security Service.
