On September 26 – 27, 2006 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, a regular round of negotiations on consular and legal issues between the delegations of Ukraine and the Russian Federation was held.
From Ukraine in the consultations, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Justice and the State Tax Service Administration took part, the Ukraine Foreign Ministry press service informs.
In the course of the negotiations, that was held in a friendly and constructive atmosphere, the participants demonstrated satisfaction with positive dynamics of bilateral relations in the consular sphere.
The participants of the consultations discussed practical implementation of the provisions of the Ukrainian-Russian Consular Convention and the Agreement on the Procedure of Crossing the Ukrainian-Russian Frontier by Residents of the Boundary Regions of Ukraine and the Russian Federation. The parties unformed each other of the state of preparation and conclusion of the Agreement on Readmission and confirmed their readiness to make maximum efforts in order to sign the Agreement in nearest future.
During the negotiations, the issue of updating the list of documents valid for crossing the Ukrainian-Russian frontier was elaborated in detail. For the purpose of further development of the contractual and legal base in the sphere of consular relations, the parties discussed preparation of the text of the bilateral agreement aimed at settlement of the issues of simplified procedure of changing citizenship.
The parties agreed upon holding the next round of the negotiations in the first half 2007 in Moscow.
