On September 19,
2006 in New York in the framework of the session of the UN General Assembly a
regular Ukraine-EU Troika meeting at the level of ministers for foreign affairs
took place.
Borys Tarasyuk, Minister for Foreign Affaires of Ukraine, headed the delegation of Ukraine, Mr Erkki Tuomioja, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland, holding the EU presidency, led the EU party.
In the course of the meeting the parties discussed the development of Ukraine-EU relations, including the results of the tenth meeting of Ukraine-EU Cooperation Council of September 14, 2006, the preparation of Ukraine-EU Helsinki Summit of October 27, 2006, the prospects for conclusion and parameters of a new basic treaty, the problems of visa regime and readmission.
The parties also exchanged views on current regional and international problems, in particular the prospects of Ukraine-EU interaction within implementation of the projects on rebuilding the Lebanon infrastructure, the Transdniestrian settlement, the situation in Belarus.
