Victor Yushchenko has left Crimea to be present at today’s funeral of Nadiya Svitlychna, one of Ukraine’s most prominent dissidents, President's press office reported.
The President said her “position and views have left a trace in millions of souls.”
“On behalf of the citizens of Ukraine, I would like to present heartfelt condolences to her relatives and friends, as well as to all Ukrainians of the world,” he said.
Lina Kostenko, the famous Ukrainian poetess, was among those who came to Kyiv’s Baikove Cemetery to attend the burial.
Nadiya Svitlychna resided in the United States of America for more than two decades. She died last week, August 8, in the town of Irvington, New Jersey.
