Victor Yushchenko believes the Verkhovna Rada cannot and must not make decisions contradicting the principles of the European parliamentary culture, and promises to “question their legitimacy” and act appropriately, President's press office reported.

In his letter to the Verkhovna Rada, the Head of State said “the withdrawal of some deputies from the Coalition of Democratic Forces, which resulted in its disintegration, is inconsistent with the Constitution and the Verkhovna Rada procedure rules.” Thus the circumstances in which a new coalition was formed and particularly its proposals are illegal, he said.

“The situation in the parliament makes the whole society worried and impedes the formation of a new government to resolve pressing social and economic problems of Ukraine,” he wrote.

Yushchenko demands that MPs should immediately resume “effective work of parliament, settle the coalition issue legally and nominate premier but try not to make hasty decisions.”
