On May 16, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Netherlands Oleksandr Kupchinin delivered a counter-memorial of Ukraine on delimitation of the continental shelf and exclusive economic zones of Ukraine and Romania in Black Sea to the UN International court, as declared press office of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

The case of delimitation of the continental shelf and exclusive economic zones of Ukraine and Romania in Black Sea is under court consideration on initiative of the Romanian party.

In pursuance of agreements between Foreign Ministers of Ukraine and Romania Borys Tarasyuk and Mihai Razvan Ungureanu, bilateral negotiations on settlement of this issue were restarted in April, 2005. The negotiations are going simultaneously with the court hearing without detriment to the latter.

September16, 2004 Romania submitted an issue on delimitation of the continental shelf and exclusive economic zones between the two countries to the UN International court.

August 15, 2005 Romania submitted its memorandum on delimitation of the continental sheolf and exclusive zones in Black Sea.

According to the procedure of submitting documents in this case, Ukraine may submit its counter-memorial till May 19, 2006.
