Victor Yushchenko has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President George Bush to a September forum in Kyiv to mark the 65th anniversary of the Baby Yar massacre, the official press service of the President informed.

In his letters, Mr. Yushchenko wrote: “We can now together help the world and particularly the younger generation remember the lessons of history and prevent national hatred.”

The Head of State added that Baby Yar, the site of a mass grave of victims that were killed by Nazi SS squads between 1941 and 1943, became the symbol of the first stage of killing during the Holocaust, the systematic state-sponsored extermination of millions of Jewish men, women and children during the World War II.

“For the people of Ukraine, it is the memory about thousands of prisoners of war. To preserve our memory about the World War II, we must honor these people,” he said.
