Victor Yushchenko has met with U.S. Ambassador John Herbst, British Ambassador Robert Brinkly, French Ambassador Jean-Paul Veziant, Russian Ambassador Victor Chernomyrdin, Japanese Ambassador Mutsuo Mabuchi, Canadian Ambassador Abina Dann, German Ambassador Dietmar Stüdemann and EU Ambassador Ian Boag. He thanked them for taking part in an international conference “Twenty Years After Chornobyl Accident. Future Outlook,” which was opened in Kyiv on Monday.
“We are speaking about very complicated problems, which definitely cannot be resolved during one conference. However, I am convinced that this event will make us better understand and appreciate these problems and help us start several joint projects,” he said.
The Head of State reiterated that “the Chornobyl issue calls for collective effort and colossal resources” and added that we must first build a new safe shelter, the president press office informed.
Ukraine’s Premier Yuriy Yekhanurov, Foreign Minister Borys Tarasyuk, Emergency Minister Victor Baloha, and Deputy Chief of Staff Anatoly Matviyenko attendedthe meeting.
