Project “Equal access to qualitative education” has started official work in Ukraine. The project is realized by Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine on means of the World Bank’s loan in the amount of $86.59 mln. The goal of the project is to render assistance to introduction of reforms in the sphere of education by means of professional development of pedagogical workers, improvement of educational process and improvement of resources management.

As reported press office of WB representatives in Ukraine, the project should help Ukraine to achieve equal access to qualitative education and improve efficiency of education system by means of raising the level of skill of teachers, schools’ directors with the help of trainings, improvement of educational programs, working out of professional standards for schools’ directors, elaboration of new requirements to manuals and textbooks. The matter also concerns modernization of schools’ libraries, computerization of schools.

Special attention will be paid to rural schools. In particular, considerable part of the loan is meant for rehabilitation of schoolhouses in villages and for support of innovational ideas in schools.

Paul Bermingham, World Bank Director for Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova, declared that development of education is the key task to lower poverty.

“Equal access to qualitative education is a necessary prerequisite for competitive capacity on today’s market, where knowledge plays a leading role. The loan is only a part of our help. We will also consult and render technical and expert help. In particular, we will share our experience in introduction of similar reforms and projects in other countries,” said he.

The project is the first stage of the so-called “Flexible loan”, directed to support of reformation of education system in Ukraine. Under condition of successful realization of the project “Equal access to qualitative education”, possible amount of the loan will make to $250-300 mln.
