Victor Yushchenko has met with U.S. senators, President's press office reported.

They discussed ways to forge closer economic ties between the two countries and spoke about post-election situation in Ukraine.

“We appreciate our relations with the United States,” Yushchenko said.

He added that the two countries had managed to settle seemingly unresolvable problems and thanked the United States for repealing the Jackson-Vanik amendment, signing a market access agreement with Ukraine and recognizing our country as a market economy.

William Frist, U.S. Senate Majority Leader, complimented the President on conducting fair, transparent and democratic elections, which should stimulate reforms in Ukraine.

Senator Richard Burr, Senator Judd Gregg, U.S. Ambassador John Herbst and Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister Andriy Veselovsky attended the meeting.
