Victor Yushchenko is pleased with results of today’s roundtable with leaders of parties and blocs which won the March 26 parliamentary elections and believes their conversation mirrors the Presidential Political Council, which will soon work more actively and dynamically.

During the meeting, the Chief of State reiterated that these parliamentary forces should unite to protect Ukraine’s national interests and promised to always respect opposition parties.

Yushchenko said the politicians clearly understood all challenges Ukraine faces today and are aware of their responsibility to address these pressing issues. He said they should meet again soon.

“Before meeting again we must decide what to do and how to work in these new circumstances,” he said, President's press office reported.

The Head of State said he had spared no effort to constructively develop relations with all political forces during the campaign and was now determined to cooperate with both a parliamentary majority and opposition forces.

“As President, I want to strengthen the role of the Verkhovna Rada and will constructively work for the sake of the country together with the Verkhovna Rada,” he promised.

Then the President added that the deputies of this convocation must hold a swearing-in ceremony for judges of Ukraine’s constitutional court on April 26.  He also emphasized the necessity to pass several laws optimizing the performance of government and depoliticizing state agencies.

Yuriy Yekhanurov (People’s Union Our Ukraine), Yulia Tymoshenko (Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko), Victor Yanukovych (Party of the Regions), Oleksandr Moroz (Socialist Party of Ukraine), and Adam Martynyuk (Communist Party of Ukraine) took part in the meeting. They thanked the President for initiating this roundtable.
